The 5AM Club by Robin Sharma is by far one of the best books I’ve had the pleasure of reading. The first time it caught my eye was during a casual get-together at my brother’s apartment. He had received it from a wealthy businessman as a birthday gift and had already read through it twice. ‘Transformational!’ ‘Powerful!’ and ‘Extraordinary!’ was all my brother had to say. Convinced, I decided to give it a read.
To my surprise, I discover that the book steered away from traditional Self-Help writing, rather it was written as fiction following four main characters. Through their stories, you uncover the tools and tactics some of the world’s greatest leaders, business tycoons and athletes have used to create an extraordinary life!
“One can have no smaller or greater mastery than the mastery of oneself.”
Leonardo DaVinci
There is no better time to master oneself than between the hours of 5AM and 6 a.m. This is the hour with the least amount of distractions and the most amount of insight. The solitude, silence, and stillness that exists between these two hours allow you to do deep inner work and achieve clarity, confidence, and calmness in your life. In this book, Robin Sharma provides a 60-minute formula to accelerate your personal growth first thing in the morning. It’s known as the 20/20/20 formula. Spend the first 20 minutes sweating, the next 20 minutes reflecting, and the final 20 minutes growing.
My favourite quote from The 5AM Club
“Small daily achievements, when done consistently over time, definitely do lead to stunning results.”
The 5AM Club is all about making small, incremental changes on a daily basis that ultimately lead to transformational results. Living a high-performance life is not as far-fetched as most of us imagine it to be. A high-performance life is simply incorporating small changes on a daily basis over a consistent period of time.
All in all, this book has phenomenal, overarching themes which take place over the course of the book but Robin Sharma also offers bite-size chunks of wisdom that keep you motivated and allow you to get something out of it every time you pick up the book.
Who should read The 5AM Club?
Anyone wanting to take back control over their life, achieve their goals, and become more productive.
I’ve never been much of a morning person, and I suspect that most of you reading this feel the same. However, I’ve found that there’s a very powerful shift that occurs in your life if you make the transition from night-owl to early-bird. Getting up early and being awake in the early hours of the morning before the rest of the world, comes with a sense of accomplishment in itself, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. If you genuinely want to take back control over your day and your life – the 5 AM Club is for you. ‘Elevate your morning. Elevate your life.’
